Hunker Down- Hurricane Ike

IAs my roommate Sophie and I have discovered over the past 24 hours...Texas has this weird Hurricane terminology where EVERYONE tells you to "Hunker Down." Quote from Mayor Bill White, "If you are not in a mandatory evacuation zone please hunker down and we'll see you on the other side of the storm." I, in fact, am not in a mandatory evacuation zone and am, in fact, hunkering down.
After some discussion with my roommate we decided that the term hunker down does not mean curling up in a small ball and hiding under the furniture like for a bomb drill, and actually hunker down just means to have food, water, and to stay indoors. Being that I am a typical human I decided that I must hunker down nightly when I eat dinner then retire to my bed....who knew.

All jokes about Texas hurricane terminology aside, I really am preparing for the storm. School was canceled today and I used the morning to move everything in my room into a closet, fill the bathtub with water (in case we're without electric for awhile) and pack up my cat Titus and his belongings. Sophie (my roommate) and I are camping out at the Michael Obringer/Tim Mabie residence 2 streets over because they have less windows, two floors and are protected by other buildings, whereas my apartment is right out in the open, on the first floor and has lots of windows.
So I'm planning on staying put for at least 36 hours then I'll see how things are. I'm trying to attach 2 pictures that explain where I am in Houston. I like 5 minutes from downtown and am in the West region of Harris County. WE SHOULD BE OK!! Just some possibly flooding and wind damage. We're all praying for the best. Please keep everyone here in your prayers and I will update after the storm has passed.

I can't attach the pictures I wanted to - so follow this link for a map of Houston that show's where I live! LOVE-Danielle
